Hahaha I’m going to assume it was my review that made you laugh, not the book itself! Babel is pretty good, though I prefer Yellowface! I really admire RF Kuang for her versatility.
Same! I liked them both a lot - Memory Police in particular really lingered on my mind for a while. And I will have to get that book now, I loved her first one
I hope my list helped! I know what you mean. After reading some really great books, I’ve been in a slight slump with good books but ones I haven’t fallen in love with!
I've read a few of these and loved them too. And the rest, I'm putting in my to-read pile. Especially the ones about starting bookshops because they are giving me so much inspiration right now.
I've read What You Are Looking for is in the Library and Counterfeit and loved them both! And I'm currently reading Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop and can relate a great deal to what some of the characters are going through. Who knows, this might push me to open a bookshop eventually. 😉
I’m still looking forward to reading Blue Sisters for myself, but I’m absolutely adding Hello Beautiful to my TBR because any book about complex familial relationships is immediately a must-read for me
Both books are great! I think reading them basically back-to-back (entirely by coincidence) just made me subconsciously compare. I really hope you like them and yes, Hello Beautiful is a must-read. <3
I recently feel in love with Coco Mellors, gotta read blue sisters next
Cleopatra and Frankenstein was a work of art!
13 made me laugh. Babel is on my list because I’ve just finished Yellow Face

Yes sorry! That is quite a skill RFK has.
Nice list, we have so many books in common - I’ve been trying to read more translated fiction this year as a personal goal! :)
Ooh which have you enjoyed the most? Translated fiction is so good, and I’m loving the Japanese translations lately!
I really liked Diary of a Void and Memory Police. Ooo I didn't realise a sequel had come out to Baek sehee's book!
I haven’t met anyone else who’s read these two books!! They made me think so much—I’m excited to review them and share on Substack.
Yes! The book cover looks quite similar, so you may not have noticed in the shops or even online!

Memory Police made me think a fair bit about what it means to be human. I've drafted a quick review on it—will share my full one soon!
Hope you like the sequel. :)
I’ve been looking for a list like this :) I just can’t find a book that I LOVE lately!

They're lovely, and Counterfeit is so fun! Yes I loved that book too and haha I wouldn't be surprised if it pushed a few of us in that direction. ;)
Which are the ones you've read? Yesss the bookshop ones are so lovely and comforting.
Wow! Great work reading so many and writing about it.
Thank you! I do love reading, so it's an absolute pleasure. :)
Loved the Morisaki Bookshop books!! So loveably awkward, so homey.
They're so good, and I think the author is publishing another book soon!
i’m excited for your review of Butter!
It's such a good book and I can't wait to share! I might bump it up the schedule. ;)

It’s so nice meeting someone with similar book thoughts! I do want to try Master again with more background reading.
